소개

한국현대사를 전공한 역사학자이다. 서울대학교 국사학과에서 박사학위를 받고, 같은 대학교 산하의 규장각한국학연구원 선임연구원과 통일평화연구원 연구교수를 거쳐, 2017년부터 한국외국어대학교 한국학과 교수로 재직하고 있다. 첫 번째 단독 연구저서 『폭격』(창비, 2013)으로 김진균상(학술부문)을 수상했다. 두 번째 책 『냉전의 마녀들』(창비, 2021)은 경향신문의 2021년 올해의 책, 대한민국학술원 우수학술도서 등으로 선정되었다. 그 외 『오늘의 한국현대사』(공저), 『새로 쓴 한국사특강』(공저), 『시민의 한국사』(공저) 등의 교양서를 집필하기도 했다. 한국학과에서는 <한국학입문1>, <한국현대사>, <한국근대사>, <한국역사사회연구연습> 등의 강의를 담당하고 있다.

I am a historian specializing in modern Korean history. I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Korean History at Seoul National University. My doctoral dissertation examined the aerial bombing campaign conducted by the United States Air Force during the Korean War. In 2014, I received the Kim Chinkyun Award for the best scholarly book of the year.

Before joining the faculty in the Department of Korean Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, I worked as a lecturer (2006–2009) in the Department of Korean History at Seoul National University, as a senior researcher (2009–2011) at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies, and as a research professor (2011–2015) at the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies.

I am the author of P’okkyŏk (Bombing) (Changbi, 2013), “Overturned Time and Space: Drastic Changes in the Daily Lives of North Koreans during the Korean War” (Asian Journal of Peacebuilding, 2014), and “Actualized Stigma: The Historical Formation of Anti-Americanism in North Korea” (Modern Asian Studies, 2017), among other works.
